Artisan-Manufacturing Of Bolts

Artisans and manufacturers of Bolts produce externally threaded fasteners through specialized metalworking techniques ranging from hot forging & cold heading. These specialists transform raw steel wire or bars into precise fasteners for Construction, Railways, and Industrial use.

Key Manufacturing Processes
  1. Cold Forging (Cold Heading): Commonly used for high-volume, standardized bolt production. Steel wire is drawn, cut to length, and moulded into the bolt shape using high pressure at room temperature, which increases strength.
  2. Hot Forging: Used for larger or custom bolts. A round steel bar is heated to roughly 2000°F and forged into a hexagonal head using a National Upsetter.
  3. Thread Rolling: A cold forming process where threads are formed by rolling the bolt blank between dies, ensuring better fatigue resistance than cutting threads.
  4. Heat Treatment: Bolts are quenched and tempered to enhance hardness and tensile strength.
  5. Surface Treatment: Coatings such as zinc-plating or hot-dip galvanizing are applied to prevent corrosion.
Typical Stages of Production
  1. Cutting: A round bar is cut to the required length.
  2. Heading: The bolt head is formed via hot or cold forging.
  3. Threading: Threads are cut or rolled onto the shaft.
  4. Heat Treatment: Strengthens the bolt.
  5. Finishing: Coating or galvanizing.
Types of Manufacturers
  1. Industrial Manufacturers: Produce large volumes of standard, high-tensile fasteners (e.g., 8.8 or 10.9 grade) for infrastructure.
  2. Custom/Job Shops: Produce specific, non-standard, or large-diameter anchor bolts.
  3. Small-Scale Operators: Use smaller, versatile machines for customized or quick-turnaround production.
  4. Materials used typically include stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel.
